The Maghreb in the Lead – Partners For Green Growth
The Réseau des Entreprises Maghrébines pour l´Environnement (network of Maghreb enterprises for the environment - REME) has the honour of inviting you to the regional conference:
"The Maghreb in the lead - partners for green growth"
Casablanca/Morocco, 17 and 18 May 2010
The climate change conference held in December 2009 in Copenhagen was not as successful as the international community had hoped. The political representatives of the countries participating in the conference did, however, acknowledge that the Copenhagen Accord could provide a solid basis for negotiations to conclude a treaty on climate change in the near future.
While the debate continues, the Maghreb countries are continuing with their strategies to improve environmental standards. Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco are constantly striving to achieve greater respect for nature and greater effectiveness in environmental conservation.
In recent years, the three Maghreb countries have embraced sustainable development, which now underpins basic values and principles and the commitments of the public authorities. This focus is reflected in a number of national declarations and charters.
After four years of joint activities, REME, supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (German technical cooperation - GTZ), is organising a regional conference on the environment in collaboration with the Union Tunisienne de l´Industrie, du Commerce et de l'Artisanat (Tunisian union for industry, commerce and handicrafts - UTICA), the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI), the Confédération Générale des Entreprises du Maroc (Moroccan business confederation - CGEM) and with the support of the Ministries of Industry and Environment of the three countries. The purpose of the conference is to support the efforts of those responsible for the environment in the Maghreb countries and promote continuing exchanges between them and international environmental experts.
